Normal newborn stuff

These things have something to do with transitioning from a swimming pool environment (where the babies are breathing amniotic fluid) to breathing in an air environment.

Because of this transition:

  • Hiccups are normal

  • Sneezing a lot is normal

  • The skin of a newborn is bound to be pretty scaly and dry and pretty darn unresponsive to any kind of lotion. You can try, mind you, but don't expect that even your favorite lotion is going to help skin that's been surrounded by water for months!

  • For those of you with baby boys, To circumcize or not to circumcize: That is the question!

Something all babies need is umbilical cord care.
