MMR-V:  Combination MMR and Varicella vaccines

In June 2006, new recommendations for the prevention of varicella (chickenpox) disease were released.  These will probably not be put into effect until January 2007.

Right now, we are recommending one dose of varicella vaccine at 12-15 months of age.  The new recommendations will include a second dose of the vaccine at 4-6 years of age.  This schedule coincides with the current MMR recommendations, so the MMR-V vaccine will take care of both doses and put it into one shot.
